crawler-based search engine. Google makes heavy use of link analysis as
a primary way to rank these pages. Goggle has the ability to search for
images and also provides search results to AOL Search and Netscape
Search. The most recognized names in search engines, paid inclusions are

Lycos generates its information from a variety of data sources.
Among these are crawler-based listings from FAST, paid placement
listings from Overture and category results from the Open Directory. Its
main listings come from AllTheWeb.com with some results from the Open
Directory project. Lycos acquired the competing HotBot search service,
which continues to be run separately.
Netscape Search's
results come primarily from the Open Directory and Netscape's own
database. Secondary results come from Google. Netscape no longer accepts
direct listings. To be listed on Netscape, the site must be listed with
Google or the Open Directory. Paid inclusion listings come from
Overture.
